Sister Ruth honored

October 4, 2017 // SAMC

Congratulations to Sister Ruth Marie Nickerson, CSC, for being inducted into the Central San Joaquin Valley Nursing Hall of Fame! This prestigious award honors the distinctive careers of nurse leaders within the seven-county region of the Central San Joaquin Valley.

This award is jointly sponsored by the Department of Nursing at California State University, Fresno, Sigma Theta Tau International, Mu Nu Chapter Nursing Honor Society, and the Nursing Leadership Coalition of the Central San Joaquin Valley. A Nursing Hall of Fame display with the names of each year’s honorees is permanently located near the Department of Nursing at California State University, Fresno.

Sister Ruth was nominated for her many contributions to the healthcare ministry at Saint Agnes. As former CEO, Sister Ruth led our organization with bold determination, introducing many business innovations during her tenure that supported world class clinical care delivery right here in the Central Valley. But it was not only Sister Ruth’s creativity and business acumen that was impactful, but also her steadfast commitment to compassionate care. As an experienced nurse in leadership, Sister Ruth provided a caring perspective that inspired all Saint Agnes colleagues to ensure the patient was firmly placed in the center of all they do. In addition, Sister Ruth also provided great support for the services delivered to vulnerable women and children at the Holy Cross Center for Women, and the Holy Cross Clinic in a very challenged area of downtown Fresno. Sister Ruth still cares for our community as a Community Health Worker at the Saint Agnes Health Hub, located at The Plaza.

Thank you and congratulations, Sister Ruth!
